Meet Lim Shyang Guey, a 66-years-old retiree who is about to run 2,200km around Peninsular Malaysia.

Not for a medal. Not for a record. But for love, purpose, and for children fighting cancer.

After losing his wife of 37 years to Stage 4 gallbladder cancer in 2024, Lim decided to channel his grief into something meaningful.

He will run across 11 states over 90 days, covering 25–35km daily, carrying a photo of his late wife close to his heart throughout his journey.

The run, called Run For Gold, aims to raise funds for the National Cancer Society Malaysia’s Home of Hope, which provides accommodation and support for children with cancer and their caregivers.

Lim hopes his journey will raise awareness and support families who cannot afford treatment or accommodation while their children undergo care.

His run begins on 28 March 2026 in Penang, and on 22 June, his 67th birthday, he plans to complete the journey with a 78km run around Penang Island.
