\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWhile some journeys are measured by distance, others are measured by purpose. For Lim Shyang Guey, the latter became the catalyst for Run for Gold\u2014a 2,200km journey across Malaysia dedicated to raising awareness and funds for children with cancer.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBeginning at Home of Hope in Penang on 28 March, Lim embarked on a 90-day journey that would take him through all states and federal territories of Peninsular Malaysia. He covered between 25 and 45km each day, crossing the finish line on 21 June\u2014just one day before his 67th birthday. By the end of the journey, Run for Gold had not only surpassed its original fundraising target of RM600,000, but raised more than RM775,000 in support of underprivileged children with cancer through the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM).\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\"Robb\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tYet the significance of the journey lies beyond merely the kilometres completed or funds raised. The Run for Gold was originally envisioned as an adventure Lim would undertake with his wife, Joo Lee, as the pair explored Peninsular Malaysia together. Following her passing from cancer in 2024, the shared dream inevitably changed course. Inspired after reading Laurence Carter\u2019s From Grief to Love, which chronicles the author\u2019s fundraising walk around England and Wales after losing his own wife, Lim found a different path forward: one defined not by grief, but by purpose.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRather than centring the campaign around his own personal loss, Lim chose childhood cancer as the charitable cause of focus after visiting Home of Hope and witnessing firsthand the quiet resilience of young patients, alongside the unwavering strength of their families and caregivers. The gold ribbon, from which the campaign takes its name, has long symbolised childhood cancer awareness, a fitting emblem for a journey rooted in courage, hope, and perseverance.\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A photograph of his late wife hung around his neck each day, while certain stops also carried deep personal significance, including a stay in Melaka at the site where Joo Lee had spent much of her childhood. Even so, Lim had never framed the expedition as a story of loss. Instead, he views it as a celebration of the life they shared. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn several towns across the country, members of the public appeared before dawn to accompany him on sections of the route, while family members, friends, and healthcare partners rallied behind the campaign, demonstrating that the spirit of the campaign resonated far beyond Lim himself.
